WATC Meeting Minutes, September 11, 2011
The meeting was called to order by Sue Reimund at 11:43 a.m.
Pam Straus made a motion to accept the previous meeting minutes as printed. Pam Lyon seconded the motion, and it was passed.
President's Report:
Sue Reimund reported that we had 22 club members attend our Specialty Show and thanked everyone for their involvement.
She also said that Lisa Berglin will be taking over Trophies, and she thanked Pam Straus for her help with Trophies over the years.
There was no Vice President's Report.
There was no Secretary's Report.
Treasurer's Report:
Sandi Cooley reported that we made $338 at our Silent Auction at the Specialty. Also, our CD was cashed in and added to our checking account balance. The value of the CD was $2,794.88, which brings our checking account balance to $7.705.83.
Sandi has been the only signer on our club's checking account. At our last meeting, it was decided that another person should be added, in case Sandi isn't available. Sue Shannon has been added as a designated signer on the account.
NEW BUSINESS
Sue Reimund reported that the number of Airedales attending our Specialty show in Waukesha has been decreasing over the past several years. She learned from the AKC that we do have the ability to skip a year of dog shows and still have a spot for our Specialty the following year.
She also looked into another alternative. The Kettle Moraine Kennel Club sponsors a dog show the first weekend in July at the Washington County Fairgrounds in West Bend. This is an indoor, "aire" conditioned facility. She learned that their number of participants has been increasing in the past few years. After discussing the proposal that Sue received from the Kettle Moraine Kennel Club, Pam Straus made a motion that we move our annual Specialty for 2012 to Kettle Moraine and that we have it on Sunday, July 1st, 2012. Pam Lyon seconded the motion, and it was unanimously passed.
We then had a discussion about potential judges, because the Kettle Moraine club needed a list immediately.
New member applications: Sandi Cooley read the following 2 applications:
Ernie Tannehill

Janis H. Linn

Sue Reimund made a motion that we accept the 2 new members. Pam Straus seconded it, and it was unanimously passed. WELCOME!
October Fun Day
Sue Reimund has put together a PowerPoint Presentation about the Airedale breed. It was decided that the club will have to rent an LCD projector and screen (rental fee is $130). It was also decided that we will have a Silent Auction at the Fun Day, as well as a Halloween Parade and Tricks. Sue Reimund mentioned that breeders in our club should invite their puppy buyers to the Fun Day. She will also run an add in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Lisa Berglin brought up another topic that she thought should be included in our Fun Day. There is an organization called the Airedale Health Foundation (AHF), a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the health and future of Airedales. (www.airedalehealthfoundation.org) They are asking that people participate by contributing samples (cheek swabs and/or blood samples) to the CHIC DNA Bank, contributing money to fund the projects, or by filling out a Health Survey, which is on their website. At the very least, Lisa is asking that everyone in the club fill out the Health Survey. She will look further into finding out if they need a blood sample, or just a cheek swab. If they do need a blood sample, she hopes to find a vet in the Racine area who will agree to help us with this. She made a motion that the WATC offer to its members a free Canine Health Foundation CHIC test at the October Fun Day. The cost for non-members would be $25. Jane Noerenberg seconded it, and it was unanimously passed.
There was a discussion about the Grafton Christmas Parade, which is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Sandi Cooley will sign us up for it.
Sandi Cooley read a thank you note from Craig Larrabee. He thanked the club for sending him a gift certificate to a garden center, so that he could plant something in memory of his mother, who passed away recently.
Lisa Berglin discussed the idea of giving Gas cards as trophies for sweeps and other classes at our Specialty. We all agreed that it would be a good idea, as often we have leftover trophies that aren't used.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30.
As an addendum to the meeting, Lisa Berglin brought up the subject of needing a sweeps judge at our Specialty. We came up with 6 names, and Lisa agreed to contact them.
On a side note, since our meeting, Sue Reimund found out that it was too late to submit the judges' names to the Kettle Moraine Kennel Club. They had already picked Christine Erickson to judge Airedales on July 1st for our Specialty. Lisa Berglin contacted Deirdre Hernandez, asking if she would be our sweepstakes judge, and she accepted.
