On Sunday, September 11th, Sue and Chuck Reimund hosted the club officers and board members for a meeting at their home in Brookfield. Because we had some important decisions to be made regarding our Specialty show, we decided to get the preliminary discussion and voting done before our October Fun Day. Over a delicious potluck lunch on their patio, we got a lot accomplished! Please read the minutes, and if you have any questions or comments, contact Sue Reimund at [email protected].
October Fun Day
Sue Reimund has put together a PowerPoint Presentation about the Airedale breed. It was decided that the club will have to rent an LCD projector and screen (rental fee is $130). It was also decided that we will have a Silent Auction at the Fun Day, as well as a Halloween Parade and Tricks. Sue Reimund mentioned that breeders in our club should invite their puppy buyers to the Fun Day. She will also run an add in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Lisa Berglin brought up another topic that she thought should be included in our Fun Day. There is an organization called the Airedale Health Foundation (AHF), a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the health and future of Airedales. (www.airedalehealthfoundation.org) They are asking that people participate by contributing samples (cheek swabs and/or blood samples) to the CHIC DNA Bank, contributing money to fund the projects, or by filling out a Health Survey, which is on their website. At the very least, Lisa is asking that everyone in the club fill out the Health Survey. She will look further into finding out if they need a blood sample, or just a cheek swab. If they do need a blood sample, she hopes to find a vet in the Racine area who will agree to help us with this. She made a motion that the WATC offer to its members a free Canine Health Foundation CHIC test at the October Fun Day. The cost for non-members would be $25. Jane Noerenberg seconded it, and it was unanimously passed.
There was a discussion about the Grafton Christmas Parade, which is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Sandi Cooley will sign us up for it.
Sandi Cooley read a thank you note from Craig Larrabee. He thanked the club for sending him a gift certificate to a garden center, so that he could plant something in memory of his mother, who passed away recently.
Lisa Berglin discussed the idea of giving Gas cards as trophies for sweeps and other classes at our Specialty. We all agreed that it would be a good idea, as often we have leftover trophies that aren't used.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30.
As an addendum to the meeting, Lisa Berglin brought up the subject of needing a sweeps judge at our Specialty. We came up with 6 names, and Lisa agreed to contact them.
On a side note, since our meeting, Sue Reimund found out that it was too late to submit the judges' names to the Kettle Moraine Kennel Club. They had already picked Christine Erickson to judge Airedales on July 1st for our Specialty. Lisa Berglin contacted Deirdre Hernandez, asking if she would be our sweepstakes judge, and she accepted.
Mark your calendars for this FUN and FESTIVE event!
It will be on Saturday, November 26th. The parade begins at 11 a.m., but we meet at 10:15. More details will follow.
WATC CHRISTMAS PARTY & GIFT EXCHANGE
Mark your calendars for Sunday, Dec. 4th. More details to follow!
"THE AIREDALE TERRIER, An Inspirational Journey into the Lives of Dogs and Their Owners"
I received a copy of this beautiful hard-cover "coffee table book" in the mail recently. The authors are from Sweden - Lars Gren & Helena Ardholm. They are offering all Airedale clubs a special price on this book, if we order a box of 16 of them. The price is $33 / book, which includes shipping. You can see the book at this website: www.redsire.com. The book will also be at the October Fun Day, along with a sign-up sheet for anyone who wants to order. If you're not attending the Fun Day, please let me know if you are interested in ordering 1 or more copies of this book.
